Bernard de Bailliu is a French engraver. He trained and worked for his father Pieter de Bailliu. He entered the academy of Saint Luke in Antwerp. In 1688 he left for Rome and joined a group of Flemish and Dutch artists there. He is mainly known for his engraved portraits of cardinals (series of 81 portraits). He is a reproduction engraver specialising mainly in portraits and historical scenes.
Peter of Cortona is the designer of this composition in the Pitti Palace and is an Italian painter and architect of the 17th century. He is defined as belonging to the early Baroque movement. He is mainly known for his fresco work. His most famous work is “The Triumph of Divine Providence” also called “The Glory of the Barbirini.” His work in the Venus Hall is a tribute to the Medici.
