Description
This chair is from Jiangsu province in eastern China, circa 1880. Unusual in its design, it features a wide, deeply carved backrest plus straight seat posts. The apron and spandrels of the chair are elegantly carved into stylised dragons, while the main focal point is the intricate backrest, hand-crafted from a single piece of wood to depict a single, robed female figure. Overhead, the top rail is skillfully carved with a floral pattern in relief.
Perfect as both a feature and additional seating in the corner of a room or in a hallway.
