Description
Bronze proof with brown patina, replica of the Roman marble sculpture attributed to Praxiteles (circa 395-326 B.C.), discovered during excavations in 1792 at Gabies, Italy.
It depicts Artemis, goddess of hunting and nature, wearing a short chiton with wide sleeves. She is shown about to fasten her cloak. As is customary in ancient art, the goddess is staring into space. Her wavy hair is held back by a thin headband.
This work will appeal to mythology fans in particular.
