This rare pair of bookends from the Italian Art Deco period is truly refined. Two greyhound dogs in patinated bronze assuming two different poses on a base of fine black Italian marble. This type of black marble is very rare, called Portoro marble, or Portovenere, it is a fine variety of Italian marble coming from the suggestive Gulf of Poets, in the Ligurian province of La Spezia, and is one of the most beautiful among the polychrome marbles. Characterized by an intense and brilliant black color with golden veins ranging from pure yellow to honey colour. The particularity of its appearance makes it a unique marble, irreplaceable as an ornamental material.
