Description

Biscuit entitled “Sapho with column”, after to Jean-Jacques (dit James) Pradier, famous French sculptor, winner of numerous prizes, academician and knight of the Legion of Honor, and known for his neoclassical work.
In this work, Sapho, a lyrical poet of ancient Greece, is represented in a standing position, supported on an ion column. She holds a turtle shell barbiton, a musical instrument that accompanied her during her poetic songs, with a hand. It is adorned with jewelry and wears a beautiful ancient tunic.
The signature “J.Pradier 1848” is engraved on the column.
Praise for femininity, “Sapho with column” is also an ode to poetry.
