Description
Bronze with brown patina signed, on its rocky base, ‘Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse’ (1824-1887).
This Decorative Statuette represents a ‘Man facing the Wind’, using his right hand to protect his face with fine features. The position of his legs, spread out and slightly bent, also supports him in his fight. It is probable that the stick held in his other hand had the same function, although it is not resting on the ground. It should be noted that the latter is later than the rest of the sculpture.
The Man, with a slender figure, is dressed in a shirt and a jacket, both open under the gusts of wind. His legs are molded in his pants, leaving visible the contracture of his thigh muscles. He wears high boots on his feet.
The French artist, who enjoyed the personal support of Napoleon III, knew in his work to bring out the power of the wind that the protagonist is facing, by his disheveled hair and his disheveled clothes in particular.
