A large and delightful mid century modernist composition, painted in oil onto canvas. This picturesque neighbourhood scene depicts a narrow street running through quaint and distinct red houses, set against a scenic landscape view of hills and mountains in the background. A little figure can be seen in the foreground of the painting, cycling through the village street. The artist has used very fine brushstrokes to create a smooth, even finish, imbuing the painting with a sense of playfulness and frankness. There is a sincerity to the paintings simplicity, both in vision and in execution. Its Nave character captures what many modernists seek to move away from what they see as the insincere sophistication of art created within the traditional system.
