It was an artistic movement that only lasted only thirty years from 1884. The arrival of the First World War put an end to it.
Nancy has burned under the talent of craftsmen and industrialists who worked at the very end of the 19th century and at the very beginning of the 20th century.
Carpenters, cabinetmakers, architects, glassmakers, ironworkers, staples enrich each other of their know-how to create an unprecedented artistic movement: “The school of Nancy”, current abundant of Art Nouveau around a theme who inspire them, nature.
Did you know ? “Who rubs it, pricks himself” the motto of Lorraine, date of the time of Ren II (1451-1508), the Duke of Lorraine.
It refers to thorns of the thistle, then imported from the Angers region.
Today, it remains the motto of ASNL, the Nancy football club and the thistle is also present on the coat of arms of the city of Nancy.
