Description
Charming little painting of a henhouse. This 19th-century oil on panel depicts a bucolic scene in which a rooster perched on a barrel overlooks two hens wandering through a shelter used as a chicken coop. The floor is covered with straw, and in the background a large ladder is set against a wall.
A large, richly sculpted frame highlights the work. It is molded, in relief and features numerous friezes and garlands of pearls.
Contrasting colors and the artist’s confident brushwork, whose signature remains a mystery, make this an original and harmonious work.
