Description
Golden wood sculpture, originally from Burma, undoubtedly the archdiocese of Mandalay. The style is recognizable by the treatment of the drape, which is found on the Buddhas of this region.
Probably used by the Karnes or the Christian Shan (Karens, Kariangs), two ethnic minorities, only part of which is Christian.
In view of the persecutions suffered (uttered or destroyed churches), these pieces are quite rare. This was reported from Burma to the mid-1950s and the probably date of the beginning of the 20th century.
It is present marks of normal wear in view of the circumstances (visible in the photos) but has a beautiful patina of black lacquer, red bowl and gilding. The gaze is realistic, by the lilization of enamels (or veroteries).
