A very charming and well-executed modernist town scape, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1957. The painting depicts a panoramic view of a town in Spain. Rows of houses in different height populate the painting, and we can spot towering buildings in the distance. Modernist elements are certainly present in this painting, with the artist skilfully using flattened forms and blocks of contrasting colours to reconstruct this scene and to create depth and a sense of space. The charm and warmth of this town is reflected through the use of expressive and painterly brushstrokes, as well as warm and muted pastel shades. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The frame has some age toning and marks to its linen border, as shown. There is also slight paint wear to the the top left corner of the frame, as shown. Size: 51 x 39.5cm (including frame)
