MOREH MORDECAI, drypoint engraver, his favorite theme is a bestiary of imaginary animals, most often represented wounded, crucified, to denounce the cruelty and injustice of Man. He also uses mixed techniques and paints in tempera with several layers of oil paint, in the manner of the Old Masters. His life and work are also marked by an unceasing spiritual search.
In the years 1978-80, Moreh works on miniatures in mixed media in color representing imaginary animals metamorphosing into plants, musical instruments or totems, which give Bestiary of the 7th day or Moreh’s microfauna.

The original drawings are presented at the 1980 FIAC, at the Grand Palais, in Paris.

In 1981, the Haifa Museum of Art exhibited his drawings and engravings representing imaginary animals, and Michle Broutta opened her gallery with a retrospective of his graphic work from 1960 to 198114. douard Roditi spoke with him in More Dialogues on Art18. In 1983, the Michle Broutta Gallery published Entre le rve et l’veil, a collection of 48 mixed media works on paper, as well as six of his poems; this work was also published in Italian by the Galleria Don Chisciotte.14
Moreh continued to visit the zoos of Europe in 1982, and made his first drawings of rhinos in the zoos of Hamburg and Amsterdam. By the end of 1983, he changed his subject matter completely, moving from imaginative small-scale subjects to larger mixed media works of still life, often combined with an animal. The pomegranates and irises that the artist collects in the garden of his family – then living in Jerusalem – are his favorite subjects. He received the Wizo prize in Paris14.
