Description
Oil on canvas. San Vincenzo Ferreri or Ferrer (1350 – 1419),a Dominican friar from Valencia, was an apocalyptic preacher, who worked in a particular way for the composition of the Western schism. He is usually depicted in Dominican dress, with the index finger of his right hand facing the sky, (symbol of the act of preaching) while in the other he holds a book (the bible) or a Cross, and is often equipped with a pair of wings, indicating his role as ‘Angel of the Apocalypse. In the scene presented here, the Saint is preaching to two women, who implore a healing or an intercession: the beam of divine light, passing through the left hand of the Saint who holding a page, it reaches the head of the kneeling young woman, a sign of the miracle that is taking place The painting, restored and relined, is presented in a style frame.
