Description
Temple horse decorated with stamped brass ornaments, the body in solid wood, the head in brass or bronze. North India, early 20th century.
These horses, often called “Temple Toys”, mounted on boards with small wheels, were offerings to the gods deposited in the temple.
In good condition, normal oxidation marks (greyish patina)
Provenance: Estate of the collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau.
